Try Vegan for Spirituality

Generation Vegan has launched a unique 7-day guided course, which supports anyone wishing to try a vegan lifestyle to help them connect more deeply to their spiritual beliefs.

Like our other 7-day challenges, the 7-Day Vegan for Spirituality challenge is free to take part, but unlike them it approaches veganism from the perspective of universal themes: love, compassion, altruism, awe, wisdom, truth, and forgiveness. Through these themes, the course allows participants to explore their own truth, bring their actions into alignment with their deeply held beliefs, and to put more love and compassion out into the world.

It is a beautiful, life-affirming, soul-enriching — and sometimes challenging — journey of discovery! And for every person who signs up to take part in this, or any of our other vegan challenges, GenV will donate $1US to support the care of the 1,000 rescued buffaloes in Brazil (up to $10,000).

That’s two great incentives to take part!

Vegan for Love

What comes to mind when we think about love? It could be a partner, a friend or family member, a dog we care for, or a place where we feel safe and happy. It is unlikely to be a factory farm or slaughterhouse which, to many of us, feels like the antithesis of love. Day 1 also considers what it is to love and take care of both ourselves and others.

Vegan for Compassion

Day 2 considers these words of the Dalai Lama: “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” Compassion is love in action, and to put more love out into the world, and to create more happiness, we need only to act with compassion.

Vegan for Altruism

Altruism is not charity. It is not feeling obliged to help others out of a sense of duty but to recognize that we are all in this together, and that our lives and well-being are fully entwined. What is good for us individually is good for our communities, other animals, and our shared planet. So, when we give of ourselves selflessly, everyone benefits.

Vegan for Awe

We all know that feeling where we look up at the stars, or stand at the top of a mountain, or stare out to sea and feel overwhelmed by the enormity and beauty of the world around us. These moments of awe are transcendental, even magical. Day 4 explores how we can connect more deeply to that feeling.

Vegan for Wisdom

“Wisdom begins in wonder,” said Socrates, and Day 5 introduces us to people who have undertaken their own journey to wisdom. It also introduces us to people who work within animal agriculture as they reveal the impact the work has on them. With wisdom — which encompasses both knowledge and good judgment — we again see the interconnectedness of our lives and are encouraged to make sound choices in accordance with it.

Vegan for Truth

Most people do not know about the impacts of animal agriculture on other people, on animals, and on the environment. And the reason for that ignorance is because there is a multi-trillion- dollar industry working hard to keep it that way. Day 6 shines a light on some of the tactics used by Big Ag and exposes some of the industry’s best kept secrets.

Vegan for Forgiveness

At the end of the 7-day journey, we endeavor to look inwards and deal with any emotional issues that have arisen over the week. Forgiving ourselves for decisions we made in the past is key, as is forgiving others who may have encouraged us to act in a certain way. It is a time to look to the future and know that every moment is a fresh start.

“At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

The 7-Day Vegan for Spirituality course is a fresh way to consider our place in the world, and to deepen our connection to all that is meaningful and sacred to us. We hope you find it enlightening, supportive, and life-changing.
