On International Women’s Day We Honor Seven Incredible (And Vegan) Women

From actors to activists, and athletes to politicians, today we are honoring some of the most remarkable women who use their talents and time to make the world a kinder place.

Greta Thunberg, Environmentalist

An activist like no other, Greta has united a whole movement behind her as she fights to get politicians to act to protect our planet. In a short time, she has inspired a generation of activists worldwide, given a TED Talk and addressed the UN. We bow down to this incredible vegan activist. Responding to criticism about youth activists missing school, she said:

“If you still say that we are wasting valuable lesson time, then let me remind you that our political leaders have wasted decades through denial and inaction.”

Angela Davis, Civil Rights Activist

Political activist, academic and author, Angela Davis is an African-American best known for her civil rights activism. For decades, she has spoken up for women’s rights but also for animal rights, and for a better relationship with the planet. She said:

“It is a part of a revolutionary perspective—how can we not only discover more compassionate relations with human beings, but how can we develop compassionate relations with the other creatures with whom we share this planet.”

Maneka Gandhi, Politician

Maneka is the Minister for Women and Child Development in the Union Cabinet, the supreme decision-making body in India. She is also an outspoken advocate of animal rights and a long-time vegan. She said:

“Being vegan is not as much a food choice as a belief system. When you value life, you do not destroy it. I choose not to be part of any system that’s based on violence, greed, and exploitation.”

Morgan Mitchell, Athlete

Morgan is a world-class Australian sprinter specialising in 400m who competed at the Rio Olympics. She is quick, and strong, and vegan. She is a supporter of the Million Dollar Vegan campaign, which is just one of the reasons we love her so much. She said:

“That’s [being vegan] really helped with everything: energy, health, the environment. I am one of those people who actually cares. It’s what I chose to do.”

Evanna Lynch, Actress

Evanna is probably best known for her role in the Harry Potter films and for her appearance on Dancing With The Stars. She is also an activist and uses her voice and platform to encourage people to take a more compassionate path. She says:

We don’t need to eat animals to survive and thrive. You can live a full, happy, healthier and abundant life as a vegan. The animals deserve respect and compassion – I think we all know this in our hearts, and we just have to make compassionate choices.”

Anna Pippus, Animal Rights Lawyer

Anna is an animal rights lawyer who, with two degrees, now specializes in laws and policies that impact animals who are farmed for food. She works tirelessly to protect animals and those who fight for them. She said:

You gain so much more than you give up when you stop participating in animal agriculture. Your behaviour aligns with your values, which feels great. Each time you eat, you can actively contribute to making the world a better, kinder, more just place.”

Alicia Silverstone, Actress and Author

Alicia Silverstone is an internationally-known American film and TV actress. She is also a prominent vegan, animal rights, and environmental activist. Alicia has authored two books about compassionate living—The Kind Diet and The Kind Mama—and runs an associated website with vegan recipes, fashion, beauty, and eco-friendly lifestyle tips. Alicia said:

I realized that, until I stopped using my dollars to purchase meat or other products that are created through violence or cruelty, the suffering would never end.”
